I'm an engineer and architect who turns ambiguous problems into systems people can rely on — from legacy modernization to cloud-native platforms, security tooling, and AI-driven engineering workflows.
01About
I've spent the last five-plus years living at the intersection of engineering and architecture — writing the code, drawing the boundaries, and leading the teams that ship. My work ranges from reverse-engineering decades-old COBOL systems into modernization strategies, to standing up cloud-native platforms, to building cybersecurity and HR products from an empty repository.
What I enjoy most is the shape of a problem before the code exists: where the seams should be, which constraints actually matter, and how a system will behave a year after launch when the load, the team, and the requirements have all changed. I care about decisions that age well — clear contracts, honest trade-offs, and architecture a new engineer can reason about.
Lately, a large part of my craft is AI-native engineering. I treat modern models and agents as a genuine part of the toolchain — for exploring solution space, reverse-engineering the unknown, accelerating modernization, and building context-aware workflows that compound what a small team can deliver.
Think in systems. Build for the people who inherit them. Keep exploring.
How I think
A diagram is the artifact; the value is the set of trade-offs behind it. I make the constraints explicit and choose deliberately, so the system still makes sense when the requirements move.
Code is read far more than it's written. Clear seams, honest names, and boring solutions beat cleverness every time someone new opens the repo.
You can't modernize what you don't understand. I reverse-engineer the why behind a legacy system before touching the how — that's where the real risk hides.
The best engineers multiply their impact — through automation, tooling, AI, and mentoring. I'd rather build the thing that builds the things.
02Expertise
I work across the full arc — from the first architecture sketch to the system running in production, and the team that keeps it there.
Turning business problems into system boundaries, contracts, and integration strategies that stay coherent as they scale.
End-to-end delivery across Java/Spring, Node/Nest, and React/Next — from data model to interface, with an eye on maintainability.
Cloud-native platforms on AWS with infrastructure as code, containers, observability, and pragmatic reliability.
Reverse-engineering decades-old systems into modernization roadmaps — COBOL to Java, monoliths to services, without breaking the business.
Threat-intelligence, exposure management and analysis platforms — building the tooling that defenders actually operate.
Using modern models and agents as part of the toolchain to accelerate delivery, explore solutions, and build context-aware workflows.
Leading teams from zero to shipped — setting standards, mentoring engineers, and translating ambiguity into a plan.

05Engineering × AI
AI isn't a novelty in my workflow — it's part of the toolchain. I treat modern models and agents the way I treat a compiler or a debugger: leverage that changes what a small team can deliver, used with judgment and verified against reality.
When the only documentation is the source, I use AI to read decades-old systems fast — mapping COBOL internals, tracing control flow, and surfacing the hidden business rules that a modernization plan depends on.
Before committing to an architecture, I use models to pressure-test approaches, sketch alternatives, and find the trade-offs early — so the design that ships is one I actually chose, not one I stumbled into.
I build workflows where AI proposes changes, automated validation checks them, and context accumulates over time — keeping AI-generated migrations honest and turning one-off translations into a repeatable system.
The value isn't autocomplete — it's engineering context. I wire up agents that understand a codebase's conventions and history, then let them handle the mechanical work so the team spends its attention on decisions.
Used well, AI compounds a team's knowledge. Used carelessly, it compounds its mistakes. The engineering is in the difference.
06Beyond the code
I think in systems, but I recharge in the open air. A few things that keep me curious and balanced.
Equal parts strategy and patience — a captain's game of reading situations and setting the field before the ball is bowled.
Thinking two or three shots ahead. The satisfying kind of problem where position matters as much as the pot.
I recharge by heading to the mountains. The best perspective on a hard problem usually shows up somewhere above the tree line.
I'm happiest with a blank repo and a new idea — prototyping emerging tech, chasing what's next, and building things just to understand them.

What's next
Whether it's an architecture you're shaping, a hard modernization problem, or a product still on the whiteboard — I'd genuinely like to hear about it.
